Think of it as an incredibly more exciting game of darts. You will be safely competing head to head by throwing a standard hatchet at a regulation target at the end of a lane to score points.
Just click the BOOK NOW button on the top of any page! Reservations are strongly recommended to ensure you will not have to wait to get on a target. While you can just call or walk in and see if there are available targets, you’ll still need to book online and fill out a waiver. Walk-in targets are limited and on a first come, first served basis so be prepared to wait or even be asked to come back later in the day.
Axeville allows minors that are 13+ to throw with us. For safety and insurance purposes, we don’t allow kids under 13. All participants who are 13-17 must be accompanied by an adult (1 adult to 4 minors).
Nothing at all. We will start you out with a short lesson on throwing technique, scoring and safety. Pay attention to your coach, use common sense and always ask if you’d like assistance or advice at any point. We want you to enjoy this sport as much as we do.
All you really need is a sense of adventure and an open mind! We do require anyone who is throwing (or drinking) to bring a valid photo ID and wear closed-toe shoes – no sandals, flip flops, etc. We can provide loaners if needed. You may not supply your own axe. We can’t vouch for the quality/safety of an axe/hatchet you may own. If you are participating in league play, you will be permitted to bring your own axe as long as it’s within IATF regulations. More about that can be found here.
Absolutely! There’s a small amount of danger in anything you do. You can get hurt at a batting cage, white water rafting, biking or most any physical activity. However, when done properly, axe throwing is as safe as most other sports. To ensure your safety, we have the following procedures in place:
Axeville is an active member of IATF, the International Axe Throwing Federation that represents the sport of axe throwing. You can learn more about them here.
If you are a group of 12 or less and need to cancel or reduce your group size, please let us know within 24 hours at booking@throwaxeville.com. Be aware that refunds are available up to 24 hours before your event time. It is your responsibility to show up or cancel your appointment in a timely manner if you cannot make it. Cancellations within 24 hours may request a credit that can be used at a later time.
Your lane may be forfeit if you show up more than 15 minutes past the start time.
If you are part of a private party, please contact us (828) 589-AXES or events@throwaxeville.com at least 48 hours in advance and inform us that you will need to cancel your booking. Cancellations inside of 48 hours will forfeit your security deposit.
It will cost you $22 per person for one hour (with a 2-person minimum). Or you can choose 2 hours for only $36 per person (with a 4-person minimum). You will pay in advance when you make your reservation. Reservations are fully refundable up to 24 hours before your scheduled time.
As long as a waiver is signed, spectators are welcome at the bar, in our lounge areas and outside. Anyone who hasn’t paid to throw may not pass the yellow line that divides the throwing area from the rest of the club. During our busier times (especially Saturdays), we may have to limit the amount of spectators to ensure we have enough room and parking for our paid throwers. We feel that once you see how fun it is, you will want to do more than watch.
Yes! We can handle parties up to about 60 people but we’ll generally need at least 14 days’ notice. Private events are booked for a minimum of 2 hours and can be scheduled for almost any day and/or time if enough advance notice is given. Contact us at events@throwaxeville.com for large party reservations. Give us as much information as you can – dates, times, expected party size, catering needs, etc.
We ask all parties of 4 or more to consider carpooling or grabbing an Uber / Lyft.
We have light snacks such as potato chips, crackers and hummus , jerky and more but we do not sell anything that would be considered a meal. We may occasionally have a food truck on site, when one is available. You can always bring food in or have food delivered to Axeville for you and your group. If you’d like local catering options, send a note to events@throwaxeville.com.
Not how you may be thinking. Axeville is a private sporting facility that happens to serve beer as well. It IS Asheville, after all… Our main function is to provide a fun, safe environment to throw axes. We sell beer but it’s meant to be an additional benefit, not the main attraction.
Yes! We are fully insured.
You will be aiming at a large, stationary wooden target about 14-16 feet straight in front of you. We may add temporary targets to the standard target for holidays, private parties or corporate events.
Due to safety and insurance reasons, pets are not allowed in our club with the exception of certified service animals.
No, we are not BYOB. We sell beer, wine, cider as well as non-alcoholic beverages to our customers.
